How to roll color dice

Choose a dice count from 1 to 100, then select Roll colors. Every die independently picks one of six colors. Results remain in this tab’s history until you clear them or reload; use Copy result to copy the latest roll as text.

Every tile includes its color name, so you can read the result without relying on the background color. The preview is a label, not an earlier result.

What each color means

Agree on a meaning before you roll: red might mean draw, orange tell a story, yellow answer a question, green move, blue swap and purple choose. The roller selects colors; your game decides the action.

For a physical color die with a different set of faces or repeated colors, these six equal outcomes may not match its probabilities. This tool uses one face each for red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple.

Equal chances for six colors

Each color has a 1 in 6 chance on each die. Previous rolls do not affect the next result. A pair of color dice has 36 equally likely ordered combinations, including six matching pairs, so the chance that two dice match is 1 in 6.

With six dice, the expected number of results of any one color is 1. That does not mean every color appears once: repeated colors are normal. The dice probability and averages guide explains independent rolls.

Color dice for the classroom

Assign colors to six activities, teams or story prompts and display the roll on a shared screen. Keep the written labels beside the colors when you explain your choices.
