How to roll a D12
This 12-sided dice roller starts with one die and 12 sides. Choose a count from 1 to 100 and a modifier, then roll. Every die is sampled independently.
D12 range and average
One unmodified D12 ranges from 1 to 12. Its expected face value is 6.5. For several dice, multiply that average by the count and add your modifier once.
| Roll | Lowest | Highest | Average |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1d12 | 1 | 12 | 6.5 |
| 2d12 | 2 | 24 | 13 |
| 3d12 | 3 | 36 | 19.5 |
| 4d12 | 4 | 48 | 26 |
| 5d12 | 5 | 60 | 32.5 |
| 10d12 | 10 | 120 | 65 |
Read the face before the modifier
The raw result is the number on the die. The total includes the modifier. Keep them separate when your game distinguishes a natural face from a modified total.
About the D12
A physical D12 is a dodecahedron with twelve pentagonal faces. Because 12 divides evenly by 2, 3, 4 and 6, a D12 result is also handy for splitting a choice into equal groups.
